Bringing Procell’s battery charger man to life

The challenge

Replacing dead batteries is both inconvenient and costly for businesses – a key pain point Procell wanted to address in their B2B marketing. Working with creative agency Wunderman Thompson, the Duracell-owned brand developed a humorous “anti-hero” character, Battery Charger Man, to highlight the advantages of Procell’s longer-lasting batteries. They needed leap to bring the character to life as a tangible, collectible figure, complete with packaging that tied seamlessly into their video campaign.

Our approach

Current 3D printing technology couldn’t achieve the lifelike detail required, so our Print and Promotions experts researched alternatives and partnered with a resin production specialist to meet the creative brief cost-effectively. Without a life-size body scan, we worked from CGI visuals, packaging artwork, and a 360° video of a live model to create a detailed 3D CGI production model.

From this, we produced a resin prototype and demo pack for client approval. Once signed off, we manufactured and packaged a limited run of fifty Battery Charger Man figures, each complete with on-pack humorous “downsides,” care instructions, and warning notices that reinforced Procell’s message about the hidden labour costs of replacing ordinary batteries. A QR code and Procell branding encouraged customers to explore the brand’s product range.

The outcome

The campaign delivered a witty, memorable touchpoint for Procell’s B2B audience, blending humour with a clear product benefit. The limited-edition figures became a talking point, strengthening brand recall and giving industry customers a tangible reminder of Procell’s promise: Replace less. Save more.
