LEAP renews post-production partnership as UK MVA Ceremony stays live and goes virtual

LEAP’s Film and Post team have been the post-production partner of the UKMVAs since its inception in 2008. Back in those days, we were digitising stacks of digibeta tapes in a Soho machine room. A lot has changed since then, none more so than in 2020. This year, the annual celebration of music video excellence got a digital makeover as a live virtual awards ceremony, and LEAP’s post-production services remained at the heart of the show.

Working closely with the UKMVA team and art directors StudioThomson, our motion graphics editors created the video packages for more than 35 categories and edited the opening montage. LEAP’s investment in secure virtual server technology and producer-managed remote editing workflows ensured the editing process ran smoothly and no spoilers were released before the big night.

UKMVA Event Director Louise Stevens said,

The team at LEAP has outdone itself this year – it’s our biggest show ever in terms of the number of categories and the number of videos they’ve had to manage, but LEAP has delivered a great set of packages with some new design elements for 2020. We may not be able to be together at the Roundhouse this year, but the UKMVA production remains top-notch thanks to our partnership with LEAP.

UKMVA 2020 LEAP sponsor best new director

As ever, the UKMVAs showcase the best of British and global music video making talent. LEAP is proud to continue to be a part of this annual event honouring the creative and technical people behind the artform, as voted by professionals within the music video industry. We sponsored the Best New Director category and extend a heartfelt congratulations to the shortlisted filmmakers, despite the absence of the usual hugs and handshakes on the night.

The live virtual awards show took place on November 5th at 7:30 GMT with the music video industry invited to get tickets to log in and be part of the show from home: hearing the announcement of the winners as it happens; connecting with colleagues and contemporaries via the UKMVAs ‘audience virtual wall’ technology – and potentially being able to accept an award ‘in person’ during the show.
